William’s Den is being transformed into a winter wonderland for Christmas, with gorgeous, pine-scented Christmas trees bringing an extra wow! factor to our indoor and outdoor areas.

We’re installing dozens of trees, one of them a whopping 20ft tall, to surround our skate rink which opens on Saturday 25th November, and in other areas around the Den. With their twinkly, dancing lights and wrapped “presents” nestling beneath, they’ll leave visitors in no doubt that Father Christmas is on his way!

In keeping with our emphasis on sustainability, the lights will be partly powered by electricity generated by the solar panels on our roof. We also searched for the best locally-grown trees – and chose Bellasize Christmas Trees, based in nearby Gilberdyke. It’s run by brother and sister team Nicola Somerford and Mike Hoff, who hand-pick them from Yorkshire growers.

You’ll be able to buy Bellasize Christmas Trees from our car park from 25th November (more details below). Combine a whizz around our skating rink and some active outdoor play with the always-special purchase of your Christmas tree will make a memorable family day in the run-up to Christmas.

Did you know real trees are more eco-friendly than artificial trees?

  • No deforestation is involved in the growing of Christmas trees. Millions are planted in the UK every year as an environmentally-friendly way of farming
  • Real trees absorb the greenhouse gas CO2 as they grow
  • A two metre artificial tree’s carbon footprint is more than twice that of a real Christmas tree that ends up in landfill – and more than 10 times if the real tree is burnt (the Carbon Trust)
  • That means an artificial tree needs to be used for 10 Christmases for it to have a lower carbon footprint than a real one
  • Artificial trees tend to be made of plastic - usually PVC which is non-recyclable

A wide range of Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce Christmas trees will be available to buy from the William’s Den car park from 25th November. Prices for the popular “non-drop” Nordmann Fir range from £30 for a 5ft tree to £55 for an 8ft. The traditional Norway Spruces are from £25 for a 5ft tree to £40 for an 8ft.

You can also buy pot-grown Norway Spruces which can be planted in to your garden after Christmas, as well as premium wreaths, plus miniature trees in hessian bags. Stands and wicker tree skirts will also be available.

Bellasize Christmas Trees will net up the trees and carry them to cars. Trees can also be delivered within five miles of Bellasize Christmas Trees (DN14 7XS) free of charge, within 10 miles for £5 and 15 miles for £10. Trees can be purchased using cash or card.
